Censorship. New Media. And China’s First Citizen Reporters.

We love when great films comes to New York! This week marked the NYC theatrical premiere of High Tech, Low Life, a cinematic documentary that follows the harrowing journey of two of China’s first “citizen reporters” as they travel the country chronicling censored news and social issues stories. Armed with laptops, cell phones, and digital cameras they develop skills as independent one-man news stations while learning to navigate China’s evolving censorship regulations and avoiding the risk of political persecution.

The film is directed by Stephen Maing and produced by Trina Rodriguez, a frequent collaborator at DB Productions and a very talented storyteller and filmmaker.

Today is the last day to view High Tech, Low Life at the IFC Center. You can learn more here.
